I would say it depends on what kind of website do you plan to create. What is the purpose of your site? What do you plan to do with it? To sell a Product or Service? To provide value through content marketing? Branding? e-Commerce? Lead Generation? Appointment Bookings? Offline to Online?

It would also be a question of the best use of your time, energy, money, and emotions. Would it be cheaper in terms of all these resources that are involved to get someone else to do a “Done-For-You”?

Personally, I prefer a “Done-With-You” service, in which you get to learn. After all, who is the best person to sell your product or service? You are the best person to sell your stuff as a web designer may not understand how to sell your product or service for you.

And by learning how to do it, you would be able to tell if someone is overcharging you or not. This actually depends on your skill levels, the better you are, the lesser the value of that service.

Type of Website to Create

As mentioned earlier, it depends on what you are trying to achieve with the website…

If you are to sell a particular Product or Service, I would recommend creating a Sales Funnel – A Sales Funnel is basically a series of web pages that will guide your visitor through the buying process. Usually, it is very concentrated on the Sales Process (With that being said, how effective are your Sales Funnels depend on your Conversion Skills (Marketing, Copy-writing, Influence, Manipulation, Persuasion, Salesmanship, Closing, etc)

In the video below, Redline Steel uses Shopify for eCommerce on the Frontend at RedlineSteel.com with ClickFunnels, a Sales Funnel Company running on the Backend for certain promotion pages and followups on the backend.

If you are doing eCommerce, and selling a variety of stuff, chances are you do not need a website. You could be selling in a marketplace platform like Amazon.com or eBay.com.

Another example is if you are selling food in Singapore, having your own website is suitable for branding, attracting dining-in, or takeaways. But you could be better off joining Grab Food. With a one-time activation fee and ongoing per-transaction fees, they get you customers who are ready to buy and staff to deliver. But then again, how would customers find you if they don’t know you in the first place? Well, you can still rely on your physical location and good reviews from existing customers.

If you want to create a website with lots of content to educate and teach people online, you definitely need a blog. For example, right here, you are reading this article on our site. It is created with WordPress, one of the most popular blogging platforms. This version of WordPress is from WordPress.org where we have our own hosting to accommodate the WordPress blog. There is another version at WordPress.com where WordPress itself hosts the blog for you. Or you can also choose to use Wix for it has a WYSIWYG (“What You See Is What You Get”) builder and it has a free business model too.

It’s Easy To Create Website These Days

With modern WYSIWYG builder technology, you don’t even need to know any coding to create a website, and along with YouTube. You can easily learn and create your own.

Furthermore, website builders software these days come with templates that you just need to edit the text to craft your own marketing messages. And replacing the default pictures. So for complete beginners, it is highly recommended that you have such basic “how-to” to edit your website texts and images.

Another reason that you should learn it yourself, is the consideration that should you need to make changes to the site, what are you gonna do? Wait for your site designer? How long will it take for him or her to reply to you? And how much would he/she be charging you?

For example, if you run a shop or a restaurant, chances are there would be quite frequent changes, such as new items, seasonal themes, menus, prices, etc. It would be important to pick a platform that you yourself find easy to edit too, before considering outsourcing to other website designers.

The best website “FREE” can get you, I would recommend Groove Funnel.

  • The Fastest Growing Funnel Building Platform.
  • Bundled with multiple Marketing Software providing All-In-One For Your Business.
  • No Credit Card Requirement.
  • If You are looking to create a few “simple” web pages, Groove would be more than enough.
  • You can even build Sales Funnels, Blogs, Ecommerce Stores, and more.

Hire A Website Designer Only If…

  • You at least have the basic knowledge to edit your website so that you are not “held hostage” by your web designer.
  • You already know how to create the website yourself, but don’t have the time to do so.
  • You want it fast and want to avoid getting stuck (You may take a longer time to build it yourself, but it would totally worth your effort)
  • You are unlikely to change anything once the website design is finalized.
  • You are willing to pay for additional WordPress services such as optimizing and maintaining your sites.
  • Some WordPress Designers provide you with plugins that would have cost more if you are to get it on your own.
